News

Extra Good news – we have received another $5,000 grant- this time from NRMA
for our Food for All Program (communal garden beds). Woo Hoo!!!

And we have banked $950 profit from the loo doo so far.

And we have two more BBQ fundraisers next weekend. World Environment Day -
Friday 5th (afternoon) at the Mullum Council offices and Sunday 7th
(morning) at the Whale Day at Byron Lighthouse. (Looking for volunteers
for 1 or 2 hours).

Plus we are being presented an award on Friday 5th at 2pm at the council so
a large cheering crowd would be great. Actually the award is for all of you
so I’d love to see you there.

That’s enough news for now – don’t want to get you over excited – but
actually there’s heaps happening – but you’ll just have to wait til the next
meeting – Saturday June 20th at 2pm (or if you come to the gardening days on
Wednesdays and/or Saturdays from noon I’ll probably spill some more beans).

[From Jeannette Martin, garden coordinator] Thankyou for your support and assistance in creating an amazing, friendly, inclusive, glorious opening celebration last Saturday. Look what we can create when we all come together!

Special thanks to Athol Compton for the Welcome to Country, Mayor Jan Barham, Graeme Williams (BSC Sustainability Officer), and our Chief of Tribe (President) Sol Farina for their wonderful wise words during the ceremony and Jacquelina for taking the group through the Blessing the Earth dance.

And of course to all those who helped out getting the activities together and supervising on the day a great big kiss on the cheek and a huge hug. Without you all it would not have been possible.

Thankyou Thankyou Thank you.

On Sunday afternoon I ventured back to the garden to check that we had left the site clean and tidy (we did of course) where I found 2 mothers sitting while about 5 children were watering and planting and playing and my heart sang. The community garden is happening!!!

PLEASE NOTE that parking for the garden is at the sporting fields behind the tennis courts. Entry is from Byron Street (opposite the swimming pool). Its only a very short walk the garden. Cars will only be permitted on site for deliveries of materials or tools and then be expected to move to the parking area ASAP.

Lastly if anyone has photos of Saturday please let me know. Our photographer didnt make it on the day so our website and records rely on your input.

Exciting days. The Mullumbimby Community Gardens has a new website. Bookmark this site for updates on news and events from the gardens and community.

We are currently seeking volunteers in a variety of capacities. Check out the get involved page of the website.
