As you are cleaning out your shed or under the house for the council’s hard rubbish collection over the next week or so, would you please look out for good quality recycled treasures that may be of use at the community garden.

We are currently seeking:

Good Quality colourbond or galvanised roofing iron

“ “ timber (preferably with nails removed)

“ “ garden tools

“ “ outdoor furniture

“ “ Stainless steel sink or troughs

Bath tubs (for worm farms)

“ “ Chicken wire

“ “ Star Pickets

“ “ Rocks

“ “ Tools and Equipment etc.

You may notice the common thread – Good quality. Although your donation may come from the heart, something broken may prove to be a hinderance rather than a help. Still if you find anything you think could be of benefit, please call me or Ed and Kirsten on 6684 3728 or bring it to the garden on Saturday.

Our general meeting is at 2pm and I will be there from 11am.

And by the way, if anyone has a spare shipping container lying around, we can certainly put one of those to use.

Thanks

Jeannette Martin

Extra Good news – we have received another $5,000 grant- this time from NRMA
for our Food for All Program (communal garden beds). Woo Hoo!!!

And we have banked $950 profit from the loo doo so far.

And we have two more BBQ fundraisers next weekend. World Environment Day -
Friday 5th (afternoon) at the Mullum Council offices and Sunday 7th
(morning) at the Whale Day at Byron Lighthouse. (Looking for volunteers
for 1 or 2 hours).

Plus we are being presented an award on Friday 5th at 2pm at the council so
a large cheering crowd would be great. Actually the award is for all of you
so I’d love to see you there.

That’s enough news for now – don’t want to get you over excited – but
actually there’s heaps happening – but you’ll just have to wait til the next
meeting – Saturday June 20th at 2pm (or if you come to the gardening days on
Wednesdays and/or Saturdays from noon I’ll probably spill some more beans).

This is a big one and we need your support to make this a success. We need to raise $25,000 for the composting toilet facility and this event is Stage 2 of our fundraising (We have $1000 to start -the BBQ at council raised $500 and a donation of $500).

Tell everyone, put up fliers everywhere (contact me to get extra prints if you need to) and make sure you come along. We will be setting up from 10am. We will need volunteers in the kitchen and to help with activities just for an hour or two. We will form a roster in the next couple of days.

If you have any books, clothing, bits and pieces for the Treasure Trove recycle stall drop them off at 26 Coolamon Scenic Drive (just past Main Arm Road) or bring them on the day. Any offers of additional activities can still be incorporated.

Please contact me if you can assist in anyway.

Council Plan of proposed community garden

Council Plan of proposed community garden

Well here we are – at last!!!! The council has finally adopted the Management Plan for the Mullumbimby Sporting Fields which includes a 5 acre site for the Mullumbimby Community Garden. YIP YIP YAHOO!!!!

So after 2 years of talking and sharing and visioning its time to go for it. And there’s a lot to get excited about.

Saturday 19th July is the third Saturday of the month and Mullum market day so we will be at the garden from 10am til 3 pm for our monthly Family Day making compost, gardening, working out how to erect a shed, designing a notice board and generally getting the garden moving ahead. Children are welcome. Bring a picnic lunch. Our monthly general meeting will be held in the meeting circle between 1-2pm.

The next item to mark into your calendar is Saturday August 16th 2008 as our Mullumbimby Community Garden Opening Celebration. Details are yet to be finalised but at this stage it will be 10 – 3 as usual with the official opening around 1ish. Various activities are being offered by a wonderful array of singers and performers, bush walks, compost displays, kids activities, food and refreshments. If you can volunteer your services on the day please contact me. Any ideas for activities or even an offer to make thecups of tea on the day would be welcomed. It will be a great day.
